    The Foundation of Coating Success

At Wissmann Enterprises, we know that 80% of all premature coating failures are caused by inadequate surface preparation. That is why we dedicate immense resources, training, and state-of-the-art equipment to our surface prep processes. Serving Nebraska and the Midwest, we ensure your steel, tanks, and industrial infrastructure are perfectly primed for long-lasting protective coatings.

    Understanding Blast Profiles

Surface preparation is not just about cleaning; it's about creating an "anchor profile." When we abrasive blast a steel surface, the media creates microscopic peaks and valleys. This rough texture allows the new coating to mechanically lock onto the substrate. Different coatings require different profile depths (typically measured in mils). We precisely control our blast pressure and media size to achieve the exact profile specified by the coating manufacturer.

    Our SSPC Compliance

We rigorously follow the Society for Protective Coatings (SSPC) standards. Our core capabilities include:

    • SSPC-SP5 (White Metal Blast): Complete removal of all visible contaminants, leaving a uniform gray-white metallic color. Used for the most severe chemical environments.
    • SSPC-SP10 (Near-White Metal Blast): Removal of all visible rust, scale, and paint, allowing for no more than 5% staining. The standard for high-performance industrial coatings.
    • SSPC-SP6 (Commercial Blast): Removal of all visible rust, scale, and paint, allowing up to 33% staining. Ideal for standard industrial environments.
    • SSPC-SP7 (Brush-Off Blast): A light blast to remove loose rust and peeling paint while leaving tightly adhered existing coatings intact.

    Environmental Control and Containment

Proper surface preparation generates significant dust and debris. Whether in our Milford shop or on a mobile job site in Iowa or Kansas, we utilize advanced containment systems. We manage the collection and safe disposal of spent abrasives and removed coatings, ensuring strict compliance with EPA and local environmental regulations.
