Large-Scale In-House Blast & Paint Booth Capabilities
Our facility in Milford, NE is purpose-built for industrial-scale surface preparation and painting. Our booths are engineered to handle oversized, heavy, and complex steel fabrications that most contractors simply cannot accommodate.
- Oversized Structural Steel: Beams, columns, trusses, and plate girders of significant length and weight.
- Fabricated Frames & Assemblies: Complex weldments, trailer frames, chassis, and machine bases.
- Tanks & Vessels: Storage tanks, pressure vessels, and custom-fabricated containment equipment.
- Agricultural Equipment: Fertilizer spreaders, augers, grain handling components, and heavy machinery.
- Train & Rail Components: Train cabs, chassis, and structural rail components requiring precision coating.
Controlled Environment = Superior Coating Quality
Shop blasting and painting in a controlled environment is always superior to field application. Inside our booths, we control temperature, humidity, and dew point—the three critical variables that determine whether a coating cures properly and achieves its full performance potential. This eliminates the risk of coating failures caused by adverse weather conditions that plague field-applied coatings.
Our Fabrication Painting Process
Every steel component that enters our facility follows a rigorous, documented process from raw steel to finished, coated product:
- Step 1 – Surface Inspection: We inspect incoming steel for weld spatter, sharp edges, laminations, and existing coatings that must be addressed before blasting.
- Step 2 – Abrasive Blasting: We blast to the specified SSPC standard (typically SP-6 Commercial Blast or SP-10 Near-White Blast) and confirm the anchor profile with a Testex replica tape.
- Step 3 – Environmental Check: Before any coating is applied, we verify ambient temperature, relative humidity, and steel surface temperature to ensure conditions are within the coating manufacturer's guidelines.
- Step 4 – Primer Application: We apply the specified primer—zinc-rich, epoxy, or other—by airless spray to achieve the specified Dry Film Thickness (DFT).
- Step 5 – Intermediate & Topcoat: After proper cure time, intermediate and topcoats are applied per the coating system specification.
- Step 6 – Quality Inspection & Documentation: We measure DFT on every coated piece using calibrated gauges and document results for your records.
Coating Systems We Apply for Fabricators
We work with all major industrial coating manufacturers and can apply the exact system specified by your customer's engineer or general contractor:
- Zinc-Rich Primers (Organic & Inorganic): For maximum corrosion protection and AISC-compliant pre-erection priming.
- High-Build Epoxies: Providing an impermeable moisture barrier as a mid-coat in multi-coat systems.
- Aliphatic Polyurethane Topcoats: Superior UV resistance, color retention, and gloss for exposed steel.
- Intumescent Fire-Resistant Coatings: For structural steel requiring passive fire protection.
- Custom Color Matching: We can match any RAL, Federal Standard, or custom color specification.
